Angelzoom (Claudia Uhle )

1. Can you introduce Angelzoom to your French public?
Angelzoom is my solo project. I am ( Claudia Uhle ) normally the singer of the pop band X-Perience. We released 3 Albums. In Germany and Finland we received gold and platinum rewards. X-Perience is at the moment in a creative break, therefore I have the possibility to do something different. I have developed further and I think I have something to say by telling content and stories. Now I write lyrics by myself. Angelzoom permits an insight in my world of dreams and therefore is much more personal. But there is a man in the background, who has a decisive influence on the music. is the producer as well as song writer. The majority of the texts I like to write myself. But also Nik Page has written three beautifull texts wich I liked to get to music. To the outside I like to present Angelzoom alone. It`s my solo project. For live concerts I engage different musicians. For example I took the string musicians of the Letzte Instanz for my live concerts. They also played some parts of my album. For a live concert we are four or five, two keyboarders and two string musicians.

2. How would you define your music?
I would say that the music is full of emotions and dreams and partially very slowly and gloomy . You could label the music as Electro/ Ambient/ Dark with classical elements. It is an electronic sound with string musicians and unusual arrangements, sounds of my childhood and youth. My intention was to create something lasting, something what you are use when you are in a special mood. You can hear the music after a hard workday to relax or when you drive your car in the night on the highway. I like this atmospheric sound. I think Angelzoom reflects my feelings.

3. How did you come to sign with Nuclear Blast?
We have offered Angelzoom many different companies. The big labels are very careful to sign new contracts and my music does not belong to the mainstream. The deal with Nuclear Blast came about by chance through the cooperation by the production of the film “Alone In The Dark”. The song “Peace Of Mind” from my album was taken for this US-Horror film. Nuclear Blast will release the soundtrack for this film. They heard my song and wanted to hear more. My Management know NB and so he offered them my album and they liked it very much. Then they invited us to Donsdorf and we made the record deal. I think Nuclear Blast wanted to release somerthing new, not only metal. Nuclear Blast believes in Angelzoom so as it is and would like to develop it over a long time. They do not interfere in our music. That I know from other labels in a different way. I am really happy with their cooperation.

4. What are the differences between Angelzoom and your former project X-Perience?
X- perience and Angelzoom differ a great deal. Angelzoom permits an insight in my world of dreams and therefore is much more personal. The difference to X- perience is also the less rhythmical structure of the music and the song structure which is based on classic and ambient. Sound is not more typical Popsong but more a crossover from different fields, electronic and classic, dark ambiences and atmospheres. This will be shown by live concerts wich will have a more multimedia charakter, more atmosphere and will drag less people on the floor. It is more like cinema.

5. Could you tell us more about your songs? How do you write the lyrics and so on…?
Most of all I prefer things of every day life, my thoughts and my dreams. Angelzoom is the music from an undone movie. The movie is about my life and my feelings. I can relate every song of my album to a definite mood, to a difinite time of the day or the year. I try to wrap my feelings into music in order to make pleasure to other people. Film- music with a content, which makes people to listen to themselves, to relax or to feel free or simply good. I can see a landscape or the sun or I feel the silence, sometimes the sadness or the pleasure. I can see by «Bouncing shadows» a dancing little girl in front of a merry go round. Although we finally did not use the text, since the effect of the music was enough. I always can see the picture in front of my eyes. I think the most important thing in a song is the content and the emotion in it. Mostly Bernd has a musical idea. He plays it on the piano. Then we try the melody and if it fits to me and my voice I write my lyrics. Very often, when Bernd plays a new theme, I see pictures in my head, so I get new ideas for my texts. At the end we record and produce it in the studio. Bernd has a fantastic feeling for harmony and sounds and he is able to create amazing ideas and likes to test always new things. Over a long time we had the idea to produce the music for a film, which did not exist. When we realized that the cooperation is going very well we decided to produce an album. He is the ideal partner for translating my feelings and thoughts. I know Bernd since many years. We worked together for the first and second X-perience album. He was one of the producers. I like his work.

6. Why did you decide to work with so many guests? And what were your motivations of choice?
Since the music of Angelzoom is like a soundtrack, very mystical and full of sentiments, we would like to use additional to the sounds of orchester and synthies string musicians. I know the Letzte Instanz personally and have ask them, if they would like to play some parts of my album. Since they like my music they came into the studio and played the parts. The same was happen to the Inchtabokatables.We contact the management of Apocalyptica. We send them our album and they liked my music. After the Apocalypticas had listen to the song “Turn The Sky“ they signaled their eagerness and so we send the song per mp3 to Finnland, where they completed the song with their string instruments and send it back to us. We produced by phone. That was another kind of work, but funny. I like the sound of their string instruments very much. While the production we had the idea to produce the song „Back In The Moment“as a duet because of my text. I asked Joachim Witt. He heard the song and liked it very much. Joachim Witt sang his text in his studio in Hamburg and brought it to me during the handing over of the Echo and gave it to me in the wardrobe. I know Joachim since a long time and to work with him is a pleasure and wihout complications. I have sang a duet with Joachim Witt on the last album of X- Perience. He took me for his live tour where we presented the duet with his band. That gave me a lot of pleasure. Joachim Witt is very successful in Germany since the 80ties. The cooperation with miLú from Mila Mar came about by chance through my management. I heard her interesting dark voice and thought it would be a good contrast to my voice and would fit to the song „Newborn Sun“. She liked it and so we recorded it. René Siodler is the singer of Roedernalleee- a electro duo from Germany. They produce in the same Studio like me. I like the voice of René very much. I hold that through the guests the album got more shape and is more interesting. I think it is good that because of the different character of the guests different feelings come about which I like very much.

7. Why did you choose to make Depeche Mode and Linkin Park covers?
We have 3 cover («Blasphemous Rumours»-Depeche Mode, «Crawling»- Linkin Park, «Into My Arms»- Deine Lakaien) on my album . I hold cover versions for especially good, when even changed, everything is preserved what was in it from the beginning. I hold it for good when songs looked at from a different angle get a new idea. We tried for the album 7 or 8 different titles and finally decided for 3, since they harmonize with my voice and fit with the character of the album. Should anybody not know the originals the songs would not stand out of it.

8. How did you come to play a song for the movie “Alone In The Dark”?
We have send the album to different film producing firms. The postproduction firm of the US- horror film “Alone In The Dark” has it´s seat in Germany. They heard our album and wear of the opinion that the title “Peace Of Mind” would perfectly fit to the final scene of their film. In the meantime my producer has made the whole score to the film.

9. Do you think of touring?
We have our first shows in December on the 28. / 29. on the Dark Winter´s Night Festival with Nightwish, Oomph and others. My live band is formed by a keyboarder and the string musicians of the Letzte Instanz. I am very eager and anxious for this first performances in Oberhausen on the 28th of Dezember and Friedrichshafen on the 29th of Dezember. We started our rehearsals last week. We also have a tour in February together with Nik Page and Joachim Witt in Germany. I hope to come to France on tour.
